About Me
I am a human-computer-interaction researcher and the manager of the Smart Human Robot Collaboration group at OFFIS - Institute for Information Technology in Oldenburg, Germany. I did my doctorate in spatial attention guidance for maritime deck officers and have years of experience developing novel interactive systems for various domains focusing on VR and AR interfaces. My current research interests are human-computer interaction, computer vision, augmented and virtual reality, and robotics.
Projects
Mobile Bridge
The Mobile Ship Bridge is a configurable ship’s bridge system in which new eNavigation technologies can be tested and demonstrated. In particular new interaction concepts are within the focus of the development. This includes both, the providing of information to nautical personal as well as new control concepts. The portable structure of the system allows a straightforward demonstration of these concepts in a real system environment, e.g. on real ship bridges as the system can be connected to the sensors on board of the ship in parallel with the real systems. An additional vision system supports the design, development and demonstration of these interaction concepts within a virtual environment. » Construction Manual & Documentation
Virtual Handles
This is an implementation of screen-based Virtual Handles and Information Displays for Ship Bridge Simulators. A Node.js server handles data exchange and delivers different views as HTML files accessable per name. We use Socket.IO for communication between views and the simulation. The folder client-examples includes code snippets in Java and Python, as well as a full example integration into the open source interactive 3D ship simulator BridgeCommand. » Source Code & Documentation
EyeMR
Mixed Reality devices can either augment reality (AR) or create completely virtual realities (VR). Combined with head-mounted devices and eye-tracking, they enable users to interact with these systems in novel ways. However, current eye-tracking systems are expensive and limited in the interaction with virtual content. In this project, we developed EyeMR, a low-cost system (below 100$) that enables researchers to rapidly prototype new techniques for eye and gaze interactions. Our system supports mono- and binocular tracking (using Pupil Capture) and includes a Unity framework to support the fast development of new interaction techniques. » Construction Manual & Documentation » Source Code
Backup-sh
A backup shell script for Archlinux - backs up list of installed packages, home directory and content of connected android phone to destination of choice. Include/exclude paths are configurable. » Source Code & Documentation
